Your Step-By-Step Buyer Guide

Seven steps from browing to taking your purchase home.

STEP ONE

Find the Auction and Browse Lots

All JPS auction lots are listed at jps.auction. Our sales also appear on BidSpotter - search for “JPS Chartered Surveyors” at bidspotter.co.uk if you have an existing BidSpotter account. Both platforms show the same lots; you only need to register once on the platform you intend to bid through.

Lots include plant & machinery, vehicles, office equipment, IT, and general commercial assets from insolvency cases. Every lot has a full description, photographs, and a reserve or start price.

VIEWING:
Where pre-sale viewing is available it will be shown in the auction's Important Information. Viewing is strictly by appointment. Contact us for specific questions about a lot's condition or dimensions before bidding.

All lots are sold as seen. Descriptions and photos are provided in good faith but do not constitute a warranty. Satisfy yourself before you bid.

STEP TWO

Register as a Bidder

Registration is free and takes a few minutes. You must be approved before you can place a bid.

✓  Go to jps.auction and click Register

✓  Enter your full name, email address, and create a password

✓  Provide a contact telephone number and billing address

✓  Accept the Conditions of Sale and Privacy Notice

✓  Confirm your email address via the verification link we send you

✓  JPS reviews your registration - approval is typically within one working hour

OVERSEAS BIDDERS

Bidders outside the UK are welcome. All lots are sold on a collection-only basis. Shipping is your responsibility. If you intend to export goods, export VAT relief may be available, see Step 6 for the conditions.

STEP THREE

Place Your Bids

JPS runs timed online auctions. Every lot has a clear closing time shown in the listing.

HOW TIMED BIDDING WORKS
Each lot closes at the time shown. If a bid arrives in the final 5 minutes, the closing time automatically extends by 5 minutes, giving all bidders a fair chance to respond. The highest bid when the timer finally reaches zero wins.

You can bid in two ways:

✓  Live online: bid in real time during the live sale period via the JPS auction website or BidSpotter.

✓  Commission (absentee) bid: set your maximum bid in advance. The system bids on your behalf, only as much as needed to win, up to your maximum.

BUYER'S PREMIUM & VAT
18% buyer's premium is added to the hammer price on every lot. VAT at 20% is charged on the buyer's premium. VAT may also apply to the hammer price itself, depending on the type of goods, most commercial lots carry standard-rate VAT on the hammer price too.

Example: Hammer price £1,000 (+ VAT) → Buyer's premium £180 → VAT on premium £36 → Total £1,416 for a standard-rated lot. Vehicles and certain other lots carry 0% on the hammer price, the catalogue entry will show the VAT treatment.

STEP FOUR

You've Won - Your Invoice Arrives

When the sale closes, you will receive an invoice by email for each lot you have won. Check your spam folder if you don't receive it within a few hours of close.

WHAT YOUR INVOICE CONTAINS
Hammer price  +  buyer's premium  +  VAT  +  a secure payment link  +  collection address and deadline.

IF YOU DON'T PAY IN TIME
Unpaid lots will be re-offered at auction. You remain liable for any shortfall between your hammer price and the re-sale price, plus costs incurred. If you have a genuine difficulty, contact us before the deadline.

  5. Personal goods in baggage do not qualify: this scheme is for commercial export only.
