Upon formal instruction on 6th January 2025, our valuation team completed a thorough on-site assessment of the distillery. Assets included large-scale distilling vessels, bottling lines, fixtures and fittings, and alcohol production machinery. These assets required specialist industry knowledge for accurate appraisal in accordance to RICS regulations.
We created approximately 100 auction lots, offered across four separate online auctions hosted on BidSpotter and iBidder. These were staggered strategically over several weeks to allow smooth collection and minimise disruption to ongoing site operations.
We placed a strong emphasis on buyer engagement. Multiple viewing days were arranged for prospective bidders, and all enquiries were addressed promptly, including specialist questions regarding equipment operation, condition, and collection requirements. This hands-on approach helped maintain high levels of interest and confidence throughout the whole process.
The project posed several challenges, including strict time constraints for both viewing and collection, as well as the specialist nature of some equipment, which required careful coordination with professional movers and risk assessments to ensure safe handling.
Marketing: Reaching the Right Buyers Nationwide
To achieve the best possible realisations, we implemented a targeted marketing campaign combining both digital and print channels:
- Social media promotion on LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram, reaching professionals across brewing, distilling, and hospitality sectors.
- Direct email marketing to JPS’s established buyer database.
- Digital advertising on the BidSpotter platform to capture active auction users.
- Print advertising with IEM magazine, a publication that connects buyers with specialist assets.
- Direct engagement with industry communities, ensuring the auction reached interested buyers nationwide.
This campaign achieved a reach of over 40,000, generated more than 3,000 unique visits to the auctions, and resulted in approximately 200 registered bidders, creating competitive bidding conditions that drove strong auction results.
Results: Successful Online Auctions and Client Satisfaction
The auctions were highly successful. The four sales events collectively generated net realisations that met, and in some cases surpassed, the client’s anticipated outcomes.
The combination of strategic marketing, professional valuation, and efficient logistical planning resulted in strong nationwide interest, with high engagement from both new and existing buyers. All assets sold were removed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with industry best practice, reinforcing our reputation for professional asset disposal and valuation services in the UK manufacturing and beverage sector.
Sustainability and Community Impact
Beyond financial success, this project contributed to sustainable asset reuse and the circular economy. By redistributing high-quality distillery and bottling equipment, we reduced waste and supported other other UK businesses in accessing affordable machinery.
The project also delivered local economic benefits, supporting employment in transport, logistics, and equipment repurposing – a clear demonstration of JPS’s commitment to sustainable business practices.
This case highlights JPS’s expertise in managing complex valuations and asset sales. By combining accurate valuation, professional marketing, proactive client communication, and safe logistical management, we delivered excellent results for our client, both financially and sustainably.
